SOUTH CHINA – Corbin Hyde poured in 21 points and pulled down seven rebounds to lead Lewiston to a 55-40 victory over Erskine in early-season KVAC boys’ basketball action Tuesday. 

Mekae Hyde chipped in for the Blue Devils (1-1) with 14 points, while Trey Ouellette added 10. Lewiston held a 30-21 advantage at the half and easily held on for the win. 

Erskine received 13 points from Stephen Wight, while Tyler Belanger chipped in with 11. 

Edward Little 60, Cony 52

AUGUSTA – Bo Leary led a balanced attack with a 17-point effort as Edward Little ran out to a 17-point halftime lead and never looked back, posting a 60-52 victory at Cony.

Omar Abdi added nine points in the season-opening win for the Eddies (1-0).

Ryan Minote was the lone player in double figures for the Rams (1-1) with 12.

Oak Hill 73, Gardiner 60

WALES – Tim Levesque threw in the game-high 31points and hit four 3-pointers in the third quarter when Oak Hill erupted for 26 points as the Raiders rolled away with a 73-60 victory over Gardiner in a boys’ basketball game Tuesday evening.

Levesque put on a one-man show and shot 3-for-4 at the foul line in the third quarter and eventually collected five assists to go along with his 31 points. Teammate Brian Bradstreet helped out with five points, nine rebounds and four assists. Cam Morin and Jake Samson each scored 11 points and Ben Foss added 10.

The Raiders (1-1) built a 29-17 lead by halftime before Levesque went wild in the third quarter. For Gardiner, Justin Pottle scored a team-high 13 points, while Mike Trahan scored 10 and Chris Kimball had 11.

Leavitt 60, Waterville 51

WATERVILLE –  Jordan Hersom knocked down 23 points and hauled in 15 rebounds to pace Leavitt to a 60-51 victory over Waterville in KVAC Class B basketball action Tuesday.

Lucas Witham and Cam Griffin had identical 12-point, six-assist and five-rebound nights for the Hornets (2-0), who pulled away with 19 points in the fourth quarter.

Tyler Roy led the Panthers (1-1) with 28 points, including two from beyond the arc.

Cape Elizabeth 68, Poland 46

CAPE ELIZABETH – Andrew Dickey led a well-balanced attack with 16 points, including two 3-pointers, and three other Capers scored in double figures as they sent Poland packing in a 68-46 victory on Tuesday.

Matt Donovan added 11 points while Conor Molone and Theo Bowe hit for 10 each for the Capers (2-0).

Kevin Payette knocked down 11 points to lead the Knights (0-2), Jake Littlefield added 10 and Mike Littlefield hauled down a game-high 13 boards in the loss.

Oxford Hills 69, Morse 34

BATH – Matt Verrier his four three-pointers and led a balanced attack for Oxford Hills as the Vikings blasted Morse 69-34 Tuesday in KVAV boys’ basketball action.

Jason Cake led the way for Morse with 14.

Old Orchard Beach 82, Buckfield 37

BUCKFIELD – Brandon Ouellette led a trio of players in double figures as Old Orchard Beach hustled to a 82-37 victory over Buckfield in a boys’ basketball tilt Tuesday.

The Seagulls (2-0) were hot right out of the box, using a 28-9 first-quarter run to set the tone. Ouellette led the Seagulls (2-0) with 17 points, while John Regis chipped in with 13 and Nate Dow added 10. 

Jarek Boyd led the Bucks (0-2) with 12 points, including three shots from long distance. Austin Dooley chipped in with five as Buckfield watched Old Orchard pull steadily away.  

Richmond 52, Rangeley 23

RICHMOND – Richmond exploded for 21 points in the first frame and never looked back as the Bobcats came away with a 52-23 victory over Rangeley.

Kyle O’Brien led Richmond (2-0) with 11 points, 13 rebounds and seven steals. Brandon Carver and Nick Woods chipped in with eight apiece in a well-balanced attack. 

The Lakers (0-2) received 10 points from Regan Sargeant, while Alex Morton added five.

Madison 56, Telstar 45

MADISON – Telstar cut a large early deficit to two points entering the final quarter, before madison regrouped and pulled away for a 56-45 triumph over Telstar.

The Bulldogs (1-1) opened witha 17-9 advantage after one quarter, but Telstar (1-1) chipped away and closed to 39-37 after three quarters.

Nick Moody led Madison wirth 24 points, while Cody Briggs added 12 points and eight rebounds. Dan Vaughn scored 11 points and Dan Whitney had 10 to pace Telstar.

Hockey

Lewiston 6, MHW 1

KENTS HILL – Jon McDonough netted two goals and added a pair of helpers to help lift Lewiston past Maranacook/Hall-Dale/Winthrop 6-1 on Tuesday in Eastern Class A boys’ hockey action at Kents Hill Arena.

Sam Cloutier added a pair of goals and Ben Wigant helped with a pair of assists for the Blue Devils (2-0), who have now taken 100 shots on net in two contests this season.

Jared Bornstein led the MHW Hawks (0-2) with a goal in the second period, and keeper Jon Dale turned aside 41 shots in the losing effort. Cam Poussard stopped 12 in the win.
