LIVERMORE FALLS — The town manager is checking on the town’s liability on the new walking path.
Resident Ron Chadwick told selectmen Monday that he walks the path and found some areas quite icy this week. He asked about the town’s liability and whether a sign should be erected stating that it is temporarily closed until the path can be plowed and sanded.
Town Manager Jim Chaousis said he has an e-mail into the Maine Municipal Association to find out what the town’s liability is and whether the path falls under the same guidelines as sidewalks.
“We’re not sure we’ll maintain the path all winter,” Chaousis said. “We want to make sure that we understand our liability with the path.”
The town’s priority is to clear the roads first, he said. The town’s policy is not to use overtime to clear the sidewalks but to get to them as soon as possible.
The path is lowest on the priority list, Chaousis said.
In other business, Selectman and president of the town’s Spirit of the Season Committee, Jackie Knight said Saturday’s parade went very well.
There were not as many participants this year but the floats were beautiful and those who did participate did a great job. The snow falling gave it a really nice effect, she said.
They gave out toys to 91 children, she said.
The next day, Sunday, Santa’s Workshop was a success with five volunteer gift-wrappers.
Children were able to buy gifts for family members for 25 cents. The items they bought were donated.
“We raised about $300” by just selling baked goods and the gift items over the two days, Knight said.
The committee also has more than $1,000 to buy coats for children in the Jay, Livermore and Livermore Falls area.
The lighting of the gazebo was an added touch, she said, and thanked the Gazebo Committee for its efforts.
