FARMINGTON — Selectmen agreed Tuesday that an Industry Road tenant has worked on clearing his yard of appliances, wood and other materials.

They also decided that what’s left in the yard is so scattered it doesn’t look much better so they are taking the next step and taking the issue to court.

Although the landowner, Marc Hand, has been helping his tenant, Jim “Skip” Hasty clear some debris, the board felt the yard had not improved that much.

After discussing the 466 Industry Road property for the third or fourth time, board members felt they had been patient but it was time to expedite the cleanup by taking court action. Neither Hand nor Hasty was present

A neighbor appeared before the board Tuesday concerned about the lack of progress and removal of items, especially the appliances, and questioned how gas in the refrigerators was being disposed.

Hasty has continued to work to clear some items and store others, Code Enforcement Officer Steve Kaiser told the board, but the materials are so widespread across the yard the board felt it had not improved that much.

Although selectmen haven’t talked with the landowner, he’s been helping Hasty and realizes he’s just as responsible, Kaiser said.

Owners of another property located at 331 Town Farm Road impressed the board with the effort taken to improve the appearance of their property since the board’s last meeting.

Several vehicles parked on the property, which is owned by Katherine Gajdukow and occupied by her and Keith Melancon, have been moved and debris around the mobile home moved for safe access in an emergency.

Melancon, who works on vehicles, previously told the board that owners have just left the vehicles there for him to fix. Since the last meeting, he’s been making calls and having vehicles towed back to the owners’ properties and placed some of his own vehicles in storage.

“They are leaving,” he said.

The board and couple agreed to sign a consent agreement to continue working on the property and the board will revisit the progress made at their first January meeting.
