AUBURN — The Lewiston Chapter of The Compassionate Friends will hold
its ninth annual worldwide candle lighting ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec.
13, at St. Philips Church, Route 4.
The event unites family and friends around the globe in lighting candles for one
hour to honor and remember children who have died at any age from any
cause. Candles will be lit at 7 p.m.
Believed to be the largest mass candle lighting on the globe, the
candle lighting creates a virtual 24-hour wave of light as it
moves from time zone to time zone. Hundreds of formal candle lighting
events are held and thousand of informal candle lightings are
conducted in homes as families gather in remembrance of children
who have died.
The Lewiston Chapter of The Compassionate Friends candle
lighting ceremony will start off with opening remarks from Chapter
Leader Kathy Peters, followed by the lighting of the
candles.
There will be songs and poetry
readings. Those attending are invited to bring a photo of their deceased loved one
for the remembrance table. After the ceremony concludes, attendees will
make ornaments in memory of their loved one. Photo pins will also
be available to make. Those wishing to participate should bring a photograph to cut.
Light refreshments will be served. For further information contact Kathy Peters at 388-2399 or [email protected].
