FARMINGTON — When the Mount Blue Motel in Farmington reopens for business, travelers will experience a more “green” stay.
New owner Rick Collins of Wilton, who purchased the Wilton Road motel during a foreclosure auction, hopes to be open by Jan. 1 if he can find the right live-in manager, he said. If not, then soon after.
After being closed most of the year, the motel is now undergoing renovation and is “going green,” he said.
Showers have all been switched to low water consumption ones, new rugs have been installed and the old box springs and mattresses have been replaced by memory foam ones. They’re suppose to be good for the environment, he said.
“The office, each room . . . the whole place is being updated,” he said. “We’re going through it room by room.”
The new venture will remain within the family, he said. Although it’s not something they’ve tried before, “I just thought we ought to do it,” he said.
The motel will keep the same name and once the motel is up and running, the AAA sign will be replaced.
Chris Becker removed the AAA sign last week as the Mount Blue Motel in Farmington undergoes renovations to reopen in early January.
