FARMINGTON — College students interested in transferring to the University of Maine at Farmington are invited to attend one of two Transfer Tuesdays taking place at UMF on Dec. 15 and Jan. 5.

During the four-hour sessions, held from 2 to 6 p.m. in the Education Center on campus, students can walk away with their acceptance to UMF. The application fee will be waived during these sessions.

The new program is planned to help meet the need of students and ease the transfer process while also helping students who may be considering transferring from a community college by discussing with UMF faculty and staff what courses they should take, said Elaine Vincent, interim vice president for Enrollment Management and Marketing.

“It opens the line of communication and opportunities for them,” she said. “While the faculty and staff gain by all working together.”

The school realizes a sizable transfer of students each year with more in the fall but a potential of 20 to 25 transfers anticipated for the spring semester with many of them coming from community colleges, she said.

During the session, prospective students will meet with an admission counselor to explore their academic interests and they will also meet with a UMF faculty advisor to explore the school’s available courses and how to match them with the student’s interest. They may develop a potential schedule for spring or fall courses.

Admission representatives will help students through the transfer process, evaluate their transcripts and help them fill out an application to UMF leading to potential acceptance right then and there.

Students need to bring their college transcript from each school they’ve attended; their high school transcript and a written essay or personal statement that explains why they want to transfer to UMF.

Both Transfer Tuesday events will take place in the Education Center on the corner of High and Lincoln streets. Pre-registration is encouraged and prospective students may do so by calling the Admission Office at 778-7050 or e-mailing [email protected]
