Yvon W. Marcotte
1913 – 2009
LEWISTON — Dr. Yvon W. Marcotte, 96, of Schooner Estates, Auburn, and formerly of 18 Novella St., Lewiston, husband of Ursula R. Marcotte, died Dec. 1, at the d’Youville Pavilion.
He was born in Lewiston, April 29, 1913, the son of Dr. J.B. and Helene (Weippert) Marcotte. He attended Lewiston schools and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1932, Bates College, Class of 1936, and received his doctorate degree (D.M.D.) from Harvard University School of Dental Medicine in 1939.
After two and a half years of practice, he closed his offices to serve in the armed forces. He served four years of active duty in the Army Dental Corps as dental surgeon during World War II. He was honorably discharged as captain, receiving the American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with battle star of the Northern France Campaign and WWII Victory Medal.
He reopened his dental practice on May 1946 until his retirement in 1982. He was a life member of the American Dental Association, the Maine Dental Association and the Androscoggin Valley Dental Association, of which he was past president. He was a former member of the active Medical-Dental Staff of St. Mary’s General Hospital and was also on the Courtesy Staff of the CMMC General Hospital.
He was an honorable life member of the National Exchange Service Club and was a charter member and past president of the former Lewiston Exchange Club. He was also a life member of the Lewiston B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge 371 and Montagnard Social Club. He belonged to the United Commercial Travelers Council 160; The American Legion Post 22; The James Longley Post of Veterans of Foreign Wars; and Officers of Military Order of the World Wars, General Joshua Chamberlain Chapter.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing and playing tennis and golf and was a member of the Auburn Prospect Hill Golf Club.
Besides his wife, he is survived by four children, Una of Virginia Beach, Va., Margaret (Peg) and husband, Dave Marshall, of Bristol, R.I., Norman and wife, Mimi, of Virginia Beach, Va., and Donald and wife, Cindy, of Bedford, N,Y.; three grandchildren, Kimberly, Robert and Rosemarie Marcotte; and several nephews and nieces.
He was predeceased by six sisters; and five brothers.
