NEWRY — More than 100 skiers and riders gathered at the Phoenix House and Well on Nov. 21 for the screening of three local amateur ski films to benefit local nonprofit Maine Handicapped Skiing.
The films were produced by native Mainers Tanya Haller, Walter Haller and Joel Osgood.
“Tow Pony: My Piece of Maine” is a three-minute film, produced by Osgood, about a homemade rope tow constructed by several members of his family in Freeport.
Osgood also produced “Canadazzle,” a 40-minute piece which featured Osgood and his brother’s lifelong skiing adventures in Maine and British Columbia.
“Lateralus,” produced by the Hallers, featured 45 minutes of footage of the couple and friends skiing at Sunday River and during a trip to Utah last season. DVD copies of the films were sold at the event.
Tanya Haller organized the event and enlisted volunteers to solicit other donations, work the door and sell raffle tickets. Many local businesses and individuals contributed raffle prizes for the event.
In all, $1,075 was raised to support Maine Handicapped Skiing’s adaptive recreation programs for children and adults with physical disabilities.
