Fish Street

The issue: Erosion of land surrounding Fish Street prompted the town to take steps to move the road 15 feet from its present location on the riverbank.

The scoop: Town Manager Eva Leavitt informed the board that $41,710 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency was awarded to the town of Turner for the Hazard Mitigation grant application.

Up next: The project has begun and will provide two-lane traffic paths that are needed on the dead end road for the 12 families and business using this particular section.

Old Town House preservation

The issue: The Old Town House, on the National Register of Historic Places, is in need of repairs in order to preserve the building.

The scoop: The board reviewed proposals from five companies regarding their plans to preserve the building. The foundation, roof, doors, sills and windows are in need of restorative and repair work.

Up next: The board accepted and signed a contract for the job with Thomas Perkins, Dirigo Architectural Engineering PC of Turner. The contract is for $2,200 with a generous gift of services attached. Prioritized phases of the preservation work are to be done over a period of time.

Veterans’ monument

The issue: The veterans’ monument, located at the corner of Main and Church streets and erected in 1945 currently contains wording that recognizes only WWI and WWII veterans.

The scoop: American Legion Post 111 representative Harris Bradeen went before the board with a request that additional language be added to the monument.

Up next: The board granted the request to add the language, which will make the monument inclusive of all veterans who served after the world wars as well.

Peer reviews

The issue: The town of Turner drafted a letter to the Planning Board voicing concerns over certain issues in the Hannaford Project, requesting peer reviews.

The scoop: Gregg Varney, chairman of the Turner Planning Board, and the selectmen participated in a brief discussion regarding the letter for peer review consideration.

Up next:The Planning Board confirmed that peer reviews for traffic control, ground water and wetland issues had been successfully conducted.
