Arthur D. Knowles
1942 – 2009
LEWISTON — Arthur D. Knowles, 67, of North Hatch Hill Road, Greene died Saturday, Dec. 12, at Central Maine Medical Center with his family at his side.
He was born in Lewiston, Sept. 22, 1942, a son of the late Arthur R. Knowles and Yvonne (Goyette) Knowles. He was educated in local schools and graduated from St. Dom’s class of 1961.
He married the former Elaine Chateauvert on May 18, 1963 at Saints Peter and Paul Church in Lewiston. He worked for many years at Chick Orchards in Monmouth. He enjoyed following his daughters in their sporting events and loved spending time with his two grandchildren. He spent many years coaching his daughter’s softball teams and umpiring. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR racing, the Red Sox, Celtics and Patriots, and he looked forward to eating out with his family on the weekends.
He leaves his wife of 46 years, Elaine of Greene; three daughters, Sherry Knowles and her companion, Richard Brown, of Lewiston, Linda Daigle and her husband, Dana, of Lewiston and Tracy Knowles of Lewiston; two grandchildren, Jenny Knowles of Sabattus and Derek Foy of Lewiston; two brothers, Bert Rioux and his wife, Irene, of Connecticut, and Gerard Rioux and his wife, Delores, of Monmouth; a sister, Rita Kohl of Minot; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his sister, Elizabeth Couturier.
