AUBURN — On Oct. 29, the first of four annual math meets hosted by the Portland School Department was held at The Portland Expo Building. More than 20 teams in each grade level from Southern and Central Maine schools competed in the event by solving challenging math problems.
Auburn elementary schools were represented by the following fifth and sixth graders who completed two individual math challenge sheets, one in arithmetic and one in geometry, and one team challenge. Future math meets will be held in January, March and May.
Grade five participants were: Koby Humason-Fulgham, Jacob Gamache, Olivia Jensen, Alina Morneau, Brandon Marquis, Dylan Miller, Michael Parshall, Jeremy Pelligrini, Donald Peterson, Mary Philbrick, Jarod Plourde, Trilok Polavaram, Jamison Pooler, Savanna Shaw, Kevin Staples, Kaylie Vallee and Kevin Xu.
Grade six participants were: Abby Bates, Anna Beaudet, Liam Benson, Alex Breton, Cole Butler, Emma Byrne, Kaitlyn Cowan, Spencer Dunn, Noah Franklin, Sarah Knoblach, Drew Lashua, Cullen Latham, Auna O’leary, Emma Paradie, Zach Rideout and Drew Tiner.
