DIXFIELD — The Dixfield Police Department will increase patrols during Christmas and New Year’s weekends in an effort to prevent people from driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Chief Richard Pickett said violators could be subject to large fines or imprisonment.
“Get a designated driver if you plan to party,” he said.
The extra officers will likely patrol Dixfield roads from Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, through the weekend, then again from New Year’s Eve, on Dec. 31, through the following weekend.
He said an additional sum of money is routinely added to the annual police budget to cover extra holiday patrols.
In other police matters, an attempted burglary took place sometime during Dec. 15 at an abandoned building on Main Street. Someone attempted to pry open the door, but was unsuccessful.
