Andrea Colasante
1930 – 2009
LEWISTON — Andrea Colasante, 79, of 16 Ventura St., Lewiston, died peacefully at his home on Thursday, Dec. 17, after a short battle with cancer.
Born in Introdacqua, Italy, on Sept. 9, 1930, he was the son of Filipo and Esterina Giuliani Colasante. He was educated in Italy.
On April 25, 1954, he married the former Margherita Volpe. In Italy, he worked as a master cabinetmaker with his brother, Duilio, and also owned The Chalet restaurant.
He immigrated to the United States in 1964 with his wife and two sons to the Boston area. They eventually settled in Stoughton, Mass., until 1978, when they moved to Lewiston. Andy was employed for many years as a cabinetmaker/foreman at Barnett Bros. in the Boston area prior to moving to Maine. He began working for Modern Woodcrafts in 1979 and retired as plant manager in 1997. While employed there, he took great pride in teaching his craft and in their workmanship.
Andy also enjoyed hunting with his dogs. He taught himself to play several musical instruments, but enjoyed playing the piano and accordion the most, often entertaining us at family events. His greatest pride and pleasure became his family and extended family. He loved family gatherings and attended many games to watch his grandsons play. His pride in his family was evident to all who knew him. He was a former member of St. Joseph’s Church in Lewiston.
He is survived by his son, Hugo, and his wife, Jeannine, of Mansfield, Mass., his son, Paul, and wife, Cathy McDonald, of Lewiston; three grandchildren, Nick and Dan Colasante of Mansfield, Mass., and Billy Colasante of Lewiston; his sister, Maria Colasante of Introdacqua, Italy; and many in-laws, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; as well as his brother, Duilio Colasante; of Italy. Mrs. Colasante passed away on Aug. 22, 2002.
