BELFAST — Katharina Berger, daughter of Dawn Preston-Alden of Belfast and David Berger of Germany, and Ian McPherran, son of Susan McPherran of Farmington and Mark McPherran of Vancouver, British Columbia, were united in marriage on Aug. 15, at the ocean in Belfast. The ceremony was officiated by Ron Milliken of Farmington. The ceremonial music was provided by John and Kathryn Sytsma of Farmington.

The bride was escorted down the aisle by her grandfather, Dennis Urick of Belfast. Her maid of honor was Lindsey Bryant and her bridesmaids were Caitlin Cross, Katelyn Ross and Caitlin McPherran, sister of the bridegroom. The bride’s brother, Zach Alden, was their ring bearer, and the bride’s sister, McKayla Alden, was their flower girl.

A reception followed at the Boat House in the Belfast Harbor on one of the most beautiful days of the summer.

The bride is a graduate of Belfast Area High School and is a cum laude graduate of University of Maine at Farmington with a degree in secondary education of math. She was also a three-year athlete on the UMF Womens’ soccer team. After graduating, she taught at Bucksport High School.

The bridegroom is a graduate of Mt. Blue High School and is a summa cum laude graduate of Tufts University with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.

They will reside in Montreal, Quebec, where he is employed by Kiewit Pacific Company building a cable stay bridge.
