MINOT — A joint effort by three law enforcement agencies nabbed nine people Saturday during an OUI checkpoint on Route 121.

Sgt. Rielly Bryant of the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office reported Sunday that members of the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office, Maine State Police and Auburn Police Department set up the checkpoint at the Minot Post Office. The joint effort was made possible through a $9,000 holiday-enforcement grant from the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety. The funding specifically targets operating under the influence and seat-belt enforcement.

The checkpoint was the first in several years for the sheriff’s department, according to Bryant. Authorities charged nine people over the course of the night. Four people were charged with operating under the influence, three for operating after suspension, one for violation of bail conditions and one for operating without a license.
