DIXFIELD — Renee Moore provided a spark for a Lisbon girls’ basketball team that needed to regain traction in the Mountain Valley Conference.

Moore scored a game-high 18 points and hauled down 12 rebounds as the Greyhounds received a solid defensive effort in a 40-26 girls’ basketball victory against Dirigo at Defoe gymnasium.

Lisbon (5-1) jumped on top in the middle quarters and displayed patience by rotating the ball around the arc before settling for an open shot. It was Moore and backcourt teammate Amber Cloutier who provided the firepower.

“This team has great potential,” Moore said. “Tonight, we executed well offensively and moved the ball well. It was important for us to play well because we had lost to Jay on Saturday and we needed to come in here
and take it to Dirigo.”

Lisbon outscored the Cougars 19-7 from the middle of the second quarter to lead 31-22 after three periods. Cloutier (eight points, three assists) started an 8-0 run that gave Lisbon a 20-15 lead.

The Cougars were playing their third game in four days and hurt themselves by missing numerous lay-ups and committing 21 turnovers. Hannah Knight, who finished with 12 points, scored a basket with six minutes left in the first half, and it was eight minutes before the Cougars made another basket. Ricki Sinclair and Morgan Hutchins couldn’t break free.

Lisbon was able to inch closer on the inside game of Kelsey Linell, who scored eight points.

Lisbon maintained a steady pace and it paid off. The Greyhounds shot 59 percent from the field in the second half.

“We really didn’t make any adjustments,” Lisbon coach Jake Gentle said.”After having played on Saturday, there was no time to practice, so we needed to play hard. I was pleased with our ball movement.”
