RUMFORD – Sophomore guard Izaak Mills tickled the twines with a game-high 17 points to lead Mountain Valley to a 59-39 victory in MVC boys’ basketball action Monday evening.

The Falcons (7-0) found themselves evenly matched in the first half, taking a modest 31-26 lead into intermission. But, Mountain Valley picked up the pace in the third quarter with a 13-4 run, and kept up the momentum for a 20-point advantage at the final buzzer.

Tom Ventrella, Derek Castonguay and Kyle Whittemore posted eight points apiece for the Andeis (4-2). Castonguay recorded a game-high eight rebounds in the contest. 

Dirigo 83, Telstar 36

BETHEL – Tyler Chiasson led five Dirigo scorers in double figures with 19 points as the Cougars jumped out quickly on Telstar and never looked back in an 83-36 triumph Monday.

Chiasson and Eric Bolduc combined for all of Dirigo’s points in the first quarter as the Cougars jumped out to a 25-12 lead. Chiasson scored 13 points and Bolduc added 12 of his 16 points in the period, along with five steals. The Cougars (7-0), led 43-20 at the half then got tough on defense, holding the Rebels to just three points in the third quarter to widen their lead to 31 points.

Kyle Hutchinson had 11 points for Dirigo, while Cody St. Germain and Cliff Turner added 10 points apiece. Dan Vaughn led Telstar (2-5) with eight points while Elek Pew and Ben Field chipped in seven points apiece.

Buckfield 53, Pine Tree 22

FREEPORT – Sophomore Austin Dooley scored a game-high 14 points as Buckfield cruised to a 53-22 victory over Pine Tree Academy in EWC boys’ basketball action Monday.

The Bucks (2-4) overpowered Pine Tree Academy (0-4) in the first half, tabulating 20 points in each quarter for a 40-5 lead at the half. Senior guard Jacob Chicoine contributed seven points on a pair of two-point field goals and one from 3-point range.

Owen Pierce was the leading scorer for Pine Tree Academy with four field goals for eight points.

Jay 69, Madison 47

JAY – Senior forward Austin Clark led a pack of five players, scoring in double digits, with 16 points as Jay dominated Madison 69-47 in MVC boys’ basketball action Monday.

The Tigers (5-1) wrapped up the first half with a seven-point run, and continued to dominate with a 20-4 third quarter effort.

Senior forward Jordan DeMillo registered 14 points, while junior center Kyle Storer contributed 12 points for Jay. Sophomore forward James Barker came off the bench to score 10 points as did starter sophomore guard Zach Bonnevie.

Senior guard Cody Small paced the Bulldogs (2-5) with a shared game-high 16 points.

Girls’ hockey

Leavitt 3, Brunswick 0

BRUNSWICK – Freshman center Kara Violette netted a pair of first period goals en route to a Leavitt 3-0 victory over Brunswick in girls’ hockey action Monday evening.

The Hornets (4-2) received a fine defensive performance from junior goalie Bri Stanley, who had six saves to notch her third shutout of the season.

Brunswick goalie Amanda Heller faced a barage of shots. She fended off 40 shots for the Dragons (2-7-1) in the losing effort.
