SABATTUS — Forty-six people have applied to be the new town manager of Sabattus, a mix of prospects from in-state, out-of-state and former Mainers looking to get back, interim head Jim Bennett said.

The search committee is charged with recommending at least three names for consideration to the Board of Selectmen and will convene Jan. 4 to start reviewing candidates, he said. The citizen group got copies of the applications last Friday.

Candidates have been told they’ll hear from the group by Jan. 8 if there’s interest in setting up an interview. The tentative schedule is to have a new person hired by Feb. 5.

It will be the town’s second manager. This fall, Bennett created an online brochure to attract more interest in the position. He said he’s heard the hiring process this time got more applications than the first time around.

Having looked through resumes, “There are a number of people here I know who have the skills and abilities to do the job,” Bennett said.
