NORWAY — Three Market Square Health Care Center residents have been busy over the past year knitting.

Norman Doughty, Jackie Stevens and Dot Twitchell have produced more than 100 hats and scarves and are still knitting. The trio used yarn donated to Market Square to knit and have been working on the project to be donated to Christmas for Kids for several months.

“We decided all on our own and it just took off,” said Jackie Stevens.

Wendy Williams from Christmas for Kids picked up the donations from the group and said, “The Coats for Everyone Program is 15 plus years old in the Oxford Hills, and now more than ever it provides our community with warm hats, coats, mittens in this very difficult economic environment. Our coats are free to anyone.”

Vicki Merrill, activities coordinator at Market Square said, “This past year Norman and Jackie have spent hundreds of hours knitting over 100 hats and many scarves. They are like our two resident elves. The only challenge we have is keeping enough yarn on hand to keep them busy. We hope all their hard work will help some people in need stay a little warmer this winter.”
