When I heard the door buzzer, I wondered who would be calling. I buzzed them in and heard this joyful voice say, “It’s the Christmas carolers.”

I went out in the hallway of my second-floor apartment at Seville Place and heard a lot of commotion downstairs. Then the singing began, some in tune, some out of tune. No matter, it was a pleasant surprise. I crept partly down the stairway and saw a mixture of adults and children singing their hearts away. I sat on the steps and listened.

It brought back memories of when I was a teen in the 1950s. A group of us, on a flatbed truck, rode around the streets of Lewiston on a snowy Saturday evening and sang our hearts out for the passers-by. Then we all went back home and enjoyed hot cocoa.

I offer my thanks to the talented group and its leader. You had a great thought and took action. You lifted the hearts of many of us at Seville Place and put us in a holiday mood.
