Irene M. Varhola
1924 – 2009
NORWAY – Irene M. Varhola, 85, of Margate, Fla., and Greenwood, went to be with the Lord on Christmas Eve.
She was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on March 21, 1924, a daughter of John and Frances (Sceranka) Masarik.
Irene was educated in Cleveland, Ohio, schools and was a graduate of John Haye High School. She married the love of her life, Steve Varhola, on June 26, 1942, and together they celebrated 60 years of marriage and raised five children.
Irene was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. As her children started school, she held various jobs and retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1973.
She was a communicant of St. Vincent Catholic Church in Margate, Fla., and Our Lady of the Snows in Bethel.
Irene loved cooking, sewing, embroidering and feeding the squirrels and chipmunks.
Surviving are her five children, Steve Varhola of West Palm Beach, Fla., Christina Dimatteo and husband, Ronald B., of Margate Fla., William Varhola and wife, Maureen, of Weatherford, Fla., Patricia Margadonna and husband, David R., of Margate, Fla., and Loretta Mikols and husband, Paul J., of Greenwood; a sister, Eleanore Cimino of Port Orange, Fla.; Emil Masarik of Margate, Fla.; six grandchildren, Theresa Fulgham, David A. Taylor, Jennifer Nicholas, Sandra Hirschkorn, Nicholas Varhola and Erik Varhola; and four great-grandchildren, Randy Nicholas, Dylan Nicholas, Gage Varhola and Erica Phin Hirschkorn.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Steve G. Varhola; and a brother, Peter Paul Masarik.
