AUBURN — An Auburn man was transported to an area hospital Sunday night after a BB gun in a closet accidentally went off and hit him in the neck.

Sgt. Gary Boulet of the Auburn Police Department said that the call came in around 8:45 p.m. Sunday. Emergency crews and police were called to a North Auburn Road home where a man was accidentally shot by a BB gun while getting a pair of shoes out of a closet. Boulet said that the gun was leaning up against a wall and went off when the man accidentally bumped it.

The man was transported to Central Maine Medical Center with minor injuries. His name was not being released as of Sunday night. Boulet said that the incident was an accident.
