AUGUSTA —The Maine Conservation Corps
— one of the best trail-building units in the country and winner of two
national awards — is looking to hire team leaders for a trail-training
program beginning Feb. 22.
These are paid positions with health insurance and an AmeriCorps
Education award, if eligible. The application deadline is Jan. 8.
Team leaders teach and lead the Maine Conservation Corps team,
coordinate and handle team logistics, and camp and live with team
members during the projects.
Among the required qualifications, leaders must be U.S. citizens at
least 20 years old, have one season of outdoor living experience, be
able to teach and get along with people of all ages and backgrounds,
have a sense of humor and the ability to maintain a safe and enjoyable
work environment. Women and minorities are encouraged to apply.
Training topics include wilderness first responder, outdoor
leadership, managing conflict, trail design, construction and
maintenance, chain saw safety, carpentry, building with stone and stone
cutting, grip hoist operations, camping skills, food planning for
groups, and trucks and trailers.
