AUBURN — The Auburn-Lewiston YMCA has announced open registration for Session 3 of the 2009-2010 swim lesson program. Lessons start the week of Jan. 4, and will run for 8 weeks.
The YMCA offers the following 30-minute swim lesson classes for children 6 months to age 5: Parent and Tot, 6 months to 3 years; Water Babies, 18 to 36 months; Tiny Tot Classes, 2 to 5 years, which includes Tiny Tot beginners for children who cannot swim and. Tiny Tot Advanced classes are for children who can swim the length of the pool on their front and back without assistance.
Also, Parent and Pike, 2 to 5 years, involves a parent in the water for the first three lessons. The remaining lessons will prepare children for the Pike Class; Pike, 2 to 5 years; Ray, 3 to 5 years; Starfish, 2 to 5 years.
Youth Progressive Lessons is a National YMCA Swim Lesson Program designed to improve children’s swimming skills, teach new skills, work on endurance and stroke techniques, as well as survival skills. Polliwog, Guppy, Minnow and Fish are 45-minute classes being offered to children ages 6 to 12. Shark swim class introduces competitive swimming to the highly skilled swimmer 10 to 18 years of age.
Adult swim lessons are offered for both beginner and advanced swimmers.
A Lifeguard Certification Course is scheduled for January 9, 10, 16 and 17. The Saturday classes will run from noon to 8 p.m. and Sundays will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The cost of the lifeguard course is $195 for YMCA members and $235 for nonmembers.
Also offered are adult lap swim, family/open swims and pool rentals for splash parties.
