CASTINE — Maine Maritime Academy (MMA) student, Brandon Dubois, of Lewiston, recently received a scholarship from the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS). The scholarship was presented at the college’s annual Celebration of Achievement held on Nov. 12, on the campus of the college.

Dubois was one of 10 students at MMA to receive the scholarship, an academic distinction at the college, recognizing the accomplishments of outstanding engineering students and the academic support of ABS, a leading U.S. ship classification society.

Dubois was selected for the academic honor by a committee of MMA engineering faculty and administrators based on their overall grade point average, their classroom and academic leadership and their intellectual curiosity and growth. A graduate of Lewiston High School, Dubois is a member of the MMA class of 2010.

According to ABS, the scholarship program is consistent with the company’s commitment to being a leader in supporting maritime education. Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of ABS, Robert D. Sommerville, a 1965 graduate of MMA, presented the scholarships to 10 students in the college’s Marine Systems Engineering program.

Recipients will each be presented with a $10,000 scholarship in each of their final two years at MMA and will be given the opportunity to complete an internship with ABS.
