Liette M. Elskamp
1930 – 2009
SANFORD — Liette M. Elskamp, 79, loving mother and grandmother, died suddenly on Tuesday, Dec. 29, at Goodall Hospital.
She was born in Jay, Aug. 1, 1930, the daughter of Antonio and Marie (DitLapointe) Turmel and was one of 10 children. Growing up with several siblings, many cousins and aunts and uncles; she has always enjoyed being home and feeding those around the table. She worked as a waitress for many years and she enjoyed the “regulars” who came in each day. She was the one who listened to their stories of life and gave encouragement when it was needed.
She was married for 46 years to Dale J. Elskamp and they lived in Arleta, Calif.; raising their family of three boys and one girl. She loved shopping and she always was looking for just the right gift to give to a family member. Traveling to Las Vegas with her husband was an adventure. Her bubbly personality and generous nature was evident in her daily activities.
Her favorite “job” was babysitting and she adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In 2006, she moved to Maine and lived with her son James and his family in Sanford. She would visit at his restaurant, Six J’s and loved being closer to her siblings. She was a faithful parishioner of Holy Family Church, often attending daily Mass.
She is survived by her three sons, James Elskamp and wife, Joanne, of Sanford, George Elskamp of Murrieta Hot Springs, Calif., and Roland Elskamp of Sanford; one daughter, Diane Elskamp of Mojave, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Joseph Turmel and Bertrand Turmel; two sisters, Armance Rich and Viola Aldrich; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her husband, Dale Joseph Elskamp; and six siblings, Real, Emery, Ulric and Guy Turmel, and Rhea Cornelio and Marie Poulin.
