Ronald G. Easter

1922 – 2010

RUMFORD – Ronald G. Easter, 87, of River Road, Mexico, died on Saturday, Jan. 2, at Rumford Hospital following a brief illness, with his loving family at his side.

He was born in Dixfield on May 5, 1922, a son of Isaac and Marion (Noyes) Easter. Ronald was educated in Canton and Rumford schools and graduated from Stephens High School, Class of 1941.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He married Bernice Sessions on June 7, 1952, and together they celebrated 51 years of marriage and raised three children.

He was employed for 39 years with the Oxford Paper Co. Following retirement, he started his own maple syrup business and won many blue ribbons at county fairs. He was a member of the Mexico Congregational Church as well as a member of the American Legion, the Rumford Grange 115, the Pomona Grange, the Maine State Grange and the National Grange. He was affiliated with the Boy Scouts for many years and served in many capacities and was especially proud of his work with the special needs scouts. He was also a member of the Chisholm Ski Club, the Rumford and Mexico Historical Societies, The GRAMPA Food Pantry and Stephens High School alumni association. Ronald received numerous awards including the Silver Beaver award from the Boy Scouts of America, and the 70-Year Pin from the Maine State Grange.

Surviving are his children, two sons, Ernest G. Easter and wife, Nancy E. Hudak, of New Sweden and Randy L. Easter and wife, Jenny, of North Jay; his daughter, Marilla A. Couch and husband, Kennith; a sister, Methyl Park of Auburn; a brother, Wendell Easter of Rumford Point; two sisters-in-law, Constance Easter of Rumford Point and Vivian Easter of North Carolina; nine grandchildren, Kathryn Quin-Easter and partner, Erica, Gregory Easter and wife, Maria, Justin Easter, Hillary Easter, Katrina Couch and companion, Elizabeth, Mara Smith and companion, Jonathan MacLeod, Karolyne Couch, Marcus Couch and wife, Bo and Kymberly Couch; four great-grandchildren, Arianna, Jolena and Shelby Easter and Marq MacLeod; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Bernice Easter; two sisters, Althea Tucker and Priscilla Jasud; and two brothers, Wilfred Easter and Gerald Easter.
