LEWISTON — The Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a seminar on federal wage and hour issues for all sizes of businesses. It is scheduled for 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Jan. 12 at its offices at 415 Lisbon St., Lewiston.
George Rioux, district director of the Boston, and Manchester, N.H., district offices covering Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and all of Massachusetts for the federal Department of Labor, will be one of the speakers. Also speaking will be Rebecca Webber, an employment attorney at the Auburn law firm of Linnell, Choate & Webber.
Rioux will address exempt vs. nonexempt employees, independent contractors, how to calculate overtime due and if it is due, when employers can use different hourly rates, and what deductions from wages are proper and when.

Rioux is responsible for enforcement in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. He has worked in the area of labor and employment for more than 30 years. He is available to assist businesses with compliance as well as oversee enforcement.
Rebecca Webber has practiced law at Linnell, Choate & Webber LLP since 1994. Prior to that, she was in the litigation department of Palmer & Dodge in Boston. She focuses her practice on employment law and commercial litigation.
