A Farmington home received heavy smoke and heat damage in a Wednesday afternoon fire.

FARMINGTON — Firefighters were called to a Beechwood Lane home Wednesday afternoon after the owner discovered the house full of smoke, according to Assistant Fire Chief Clyde Ross.

The home of Paul Dustin located off Stewart Avenue received heavy smoke and heat damage. A wood stove and fire place were both in operation but the cause is still under investigation. State Fire Marshal officials will be called in Thursday to help investigate the incident which Ross estimated to have caused up to $75,000 in damage.

The 2:30 p.m. fire centered in the living room and west side of the house and into the ceiling and attic, he said. Power was still available when the crew left the scene at 4:30 p.m. but the house can not be inhabited as it is now, he said.

Eighteen members of Farmington Fire and Rescue responded to the scene while four members of Wilton Fire Department covered the Farmington station. Jay Fire Department was called but then cancelled.

Officers from Farmington Police Department handled traffic, NorthStar Ambulance responded to the scene and Farmington’s Public Works Department brought in sand to cover the ice forming in the road and driveway from the water used by firefighters.

“No one was hurt in the incident,” he said. Ross was not sure if anyone else lived in the house besides Dustin.
