Leavitt 54, Nokomis 43

TURNER – Trailing at halftime, Leavitt unleashed its halfcourt man-to-man defense to stymie Nokomis’bid for an upset as the Hornets pulled away for a 54-43 victory in a KVAC boys’ basketball game Thursday.

Leavitt’s defense limited Nokomis (1-8) to 11 points in the second half. The Hornets (4-5) trailed 32-27 at the half.

Jordan Hersom sank 12 free throws to finish with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Lucas Witham chipped in with 18 points, seven rebounds, six assists, four steals and a pair of blocks.

Chris Braley scored a game-high 24 points to pace Nokomis.

Rangeley 71, Calvary Chapel 51

RANGELEY – Never accused of wasting any time, Rangeley sprinted out to a 22-14 lead in the first frame and pulled away to a 71-51 victory over Calvary Chapel.

Kyle Hayley led the Lakers (2-7) with 16 points, including eight in the first frame. Reagan Sargeant and Jordan Richard chipped in with 13 points each in a well-balanced attack. 

Calvary Chapel (2-7) was paced by Colby Downes with 13 points, while Clay Lawrence and Billy Cornell each lit the boards for 11. 

Oak Hill 62, Belfast 41

WALES – Tim Levesque ignited a 20-7 run in the third quarter as Oak Hill ran off to a 62-41 win over Belfast in a KVAC tilt.

Levesque scored 10 of his game-high 28 points in the third frame to lead the Raiders’ offensive charge. Ben Foss chipped in with nine points and nine rebounds, while Chad Asselin added seven points for Oak Hill (3-6). 

Belfast (0-9) was led by Dylan Webster and Derrick Bernosky with 10 points apiece, while Brad Reed chipped in with eight. 

Brunswick 45, Oxford Hills 40

BRUNSWICK – Rashan Edgerton netted eight points to spark a 12-7 fourth-quarter run that allowed Brunswick to pull away for a 45-40 victory over Oxford Hills.

Edgerton finished with 19 points for the unbeaten Dragons (9-0), while Steven Carter tallied 10 and Mitchell Black added seven. The two squads were tied at 24-24 at the break, then tied up once again after the third frame.

The Vikings (4-6) were led by Matt McVety and Cody Hadley with 12 points apiece, the only players in double figures.

Cony 78, Lewiston 54

AUGUSTA – Zack Lachance ignited a 33-12 rally in the second quarter as Cony ran off to a 78-54 victory over Lewiston.

Lachance nailed three three-pointers in the third frame and finished with 15 points for the Rams (5-4).  Ryan Minoty chipped in with 13 points, while Walker Cooper added 11.

The Blue Devils (1-9) were paced by Peter Blais with a game-high 17 points, including three from long distance. Ronnie Turner chipped in with 14 points in Lewiston’s two-man attack. 

Edward Little 43, Erskine 22

SOUTH CHINA – The Edward Little squad wasted little time in gaining control, jumping out to a 16-3 lead in the first frame and running off to a 43-22 romp over Erskine in a KVAC boys’ tilt. 

Yusef Iman led the Red Eddies (7-2) with 11 points, while James Philbrook also contributed with 10 points and nine rebounds. 

Erskine (0-9) was paced by Thomas Bragg-Grady with six points, while Bobby Belanger chipped in with five.
