HONOLULU, Hawaii — University of Hawaii freshman, 18-year-old Julianne Chu, has won the title of Miss Hawaii Teen USA. She was crowned on Nov. 8.

Fourteen contestants competed for the title. They were judged in an interview, swimsuit and evening gown phase. Chu won the evening gown competition and tied for best in swimsuit. 

Chu is a 2009 graduate of Kalani High School. Her hobbies include singing, hiking, going to the beach and surfing.

She is the daughter of Dr. Tina Chu and Dr. Benjamin Chu of Honolulu. Tina Chu is the former Tina Fortier of Auburn. Julianne’s grandmother, Carol Fortier, is a longtime resident of Auburn. 

She will represent Hawaii in the 2010 National Miss Teen USA Pageant in August.
