Board: Sabattus Selectmen
Met: Tuesday night
Restroom request
Issue: Ron Doughty, representing The Ice Zone, Outfitters for
Ice Shacks, asked selectmen for permission to set up a portable toilet
on Martin’s Point on Sabattus Pond. The company plans to rent out two
ice shacks on the pond this winter. The shacks will come complete with
bunk beds, carpets, linoleum and fish cameras — but no restrooms.
The scoop: Selectmen asked for all of the details in writing. The
town clerk said she thought this was the first time such a request had
been made. The company would maintain the toilet and nearby trash
cans.
Up next: On Wednesday, that paperwork had been brought into the Town Office. It was awaiting the interim town manager’s approval.
Road discontinued
Issue: Selectmen called a public hearing to determine the fate
of the unpaved section of Old County Road. Residents had been
maintaining it but wondered whether they should be.
The scoop: After some discussion, selectmen voted that section of road to be “discontinued by abandonment.”
Up next: A “Dead End” sign was ordered for the road.
Town Manager search
Issue: By a 4-1 vote, selectmen approved spending up to $100 to buy food for the Town Manager Hiring Committee.
The scoop: Forty-six people applied for the open post.
Up next: Applicant interviews start Monday. As many as 13 people will be interviewed.
They want YOU
Issue: Selectmen will host a workshop at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at
the Town Office to hear from residents about what they’d like to see in
Sabattus, in the near- and long-term. For instance, how does a town
library sound? Tell them what you think.
