Jane Sullivan

FREEPORT — Jane Sullivan, 89, died Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010, at Hawthorne House, with her loving family by her side.

She was born in Bethel, a daughter of Milan and Winona (Scribner) Chapin. Jane was educated in Bethel schools and was a graduate of the Central Maine Medical Center School of Nursing.

She was a first lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps, serving in the Asiatic/Pacific Theater.

In 1948, Jane married Richard Sullivan.

A dedicated nurse, she worked at Maine Medical Center for 18 years, retiring in 1984. Jane enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking, particularly apple pie, all music, piano playing, Scrabble, crossword puzzles, and spending time with her family.

Survivors include two daughters, Janice Sullivan of Portland, and Claire Finley and her husband, William, of Portland; daughter-in -law Mary Sullivan of South Portland; two sons, Dan Sullivan and his wife, Sue, of South Portland, and Philip Sullivan and his wife, Helen, of Jacksonville, Fla.; five grandchildren, Monica and Will Finley, John and Peter Sullivan, and Sean James; and two great-grandsons, Liam and Ryan James.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband,
Richard, in 1965; a son, Richard Jr., in 2006; two sisters; and three
brothers.
