BETHEL – The Oxford County Democrats will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 17, at the Crescent Park School, for a computer-based training for candidates and volunteers. Those planning to attend the training must respond to County Democratic Chairwoman Cathy Newell by Tuesday, Jan.12. Following the training, at 3:30 p.m., there will be a brief business meeting and an opportunity for networking.

The schedule of times and places for the Maine Democratic Party Caucuses in Oxford County, to be held Sunday, Jan. 31, has been released. The caucus is open to all registered democrats, with an opportunity provided for 30 minutes prior to the start time for voter registration and party enrollment by those not enrolled in a party.

Any person enrolled in another party who wishes to participate must go to their town office and switch parties by Jan. 12 to be eligible. In the case of inclement weather, Wednesday, Feb. 3 will be the preferred snow date, although individual towns will have the option to select another date within 10 days of the original date.

The towns of Rumford, Mexico, Dixfield, Roxbury, Byron and Peru will caucus at 1 p.m. at Mt. Valley High School; Bethel, Woodstock, Greenwood, Newry, Milton, Albany, Hanover, Upton, Lincoln and Magalloway plantations, 4 p.m. at Telstar High School; Stow and Sweden, time and place to be determined; Hiram and Porter, 3 p.m. at the middle school.

Individual caucuses will be held at 3 p.m. in Andover at a location to be determined; Brownfield, 2 p.m. at the Community Center; Buckfield, 3 p.m. at the Municipal Building; Canton, 4 p.m. at the Municipal Building; Fryeburg, 1 p.m. at the Legion Hall; Gilead, 2 p.m. at the Town Office; Hartford, 1 p.m. at the Town Hall; Hebron, 6 p.m. at the Town Hall; Lovell, 3 p.m. at the Town Office; Norway, 1 p.m. at the Town Office; Otisfield, 2 p.m. at the Town Office; Oxford, 2:30 p.m. at the Town Office; Paris, 1 p.m. at the Town Office; Stoneham, 1 p.m. at the Town Office; Sumner, 2 p.m. at the Town Office; Waterford, 5 p.m. at the Town Office; and West Paris, 3 p.m. at the Town Office.

A final list of caucuses will be officially posted the week prior to the caucus date.

The business of the caucus is the election of State Convention delegates, the election of local and county committee members and the opportunity to meet and support democratic candidates for state, legislative and county offices.
