Joseph Howaniec
1920 – 2009

PUNTA GORDA, Fla. — Joseph Howaniec, 89, formerly of Newark, Del., passed quietly on Dec. 19, 2009 in Punta Gorda, Fla..

Joe was born in Lewiston, Jan. 28, 1920, to Anthony and Tekla Howaniec. He was educated in the Lewiston school system, prior to becoming an esteemed World War II veteran with the U.S. Army.

He was a welder by trade and member of Local 80 Pipefitters. He had a great love for automobiles and auto racing. He was one that could fix anything! The oldest of five siblings, he was predeceased by brothers, Frank and Stan and sister, Jennie.

He is survived by his brother, John Howaniec of Lewiston; and also by his wonderful wife, Jan; three sons, Steve, Mike and wife, Patsy and Tim and wife, Debbie; grandsons, Todd and Troy Howaniec and Roland Lapointe III; great-grandson, Todd Howaniec Jr., all of Newark, Del.; he will be missed dearly by his nephews, Jim, Tom and Dan Howaniec of Lewiston, nephews, Bob, Steve and Pete Samson and niece, Donna Krenicki.
