Mavis’ wish
A musical variety show benefiting the Music for Mavis campaign will held at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15, at Leavitt Area High School in Turner. The goal is to raise $15,000 to construct this gazebo, designed by Dave Rogers, on the Leavitt campus. It was the wish of Mavis Varney that upon her death, a gazebo would be erected where free community concerts, teas, book readings and children’s activities could be held. Performing will be visual artist/mime Michael Cooper; plus Peg and Paul and other members of the Dowe family of Turner, who love to get together and sing. Also, Bare Bones, musicians playing old-time country; Irish Hill, playing a blend of Celtic, bluegrass and old-time fiddle tunes; Addy & Her Dad of Peru on guitar and violin; the Mason family of Turner; and singer and area physician Larry Catlett of Leeds. Tickets are $10 tickets, $5 for seniors and students.
