Melvin G. Harkness

AUBURN — Melvin G. Harkness, 83, of Bypass Road in Carthage, died Jan. 2, at the Hospice House, after a long illness.
He was born in Rumford, Nov. 16, 1926, a son of Everett and Jane (Arsenault) Harkness. He was educated in Mexico schools and was a graduate of Mexico High School, Class of 1944.
He was employed for 40 years as an electrician with the Boise Cascade Paper Co. He was a member of the 25 and 40-Year Club at the mill. He was a member of the Mexico Congregational Church and enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing cards.
He is survived by two sons, Wayne Harkness and his wife, Denise, of Dixfield and Bruce G. Harkness of Rumford; a sister, Elmira Polly of Augusta; two grandchildren, Tammy Vradenburgh and Patrick Harkness; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
He was predeceased by his wife, Berdina; a sister, Ruth Martin; and a brother, Ralph Harkness.
