Albert S. Hall
1935 – 2010
OAKLAND — Albert S. Hall, beloved husband of Marilyn (Miller) Hall, died on Jan. 12, surrounded by family, friends, and his dog Abby.
He was born to Clifton L. and H. Lucille Sedgeley Hall in East Dixfield in 1935. He attended a two-room schoolhouse, where his mother was one of the teachers until he entered high school. He graduated from Wilton Academy in 1954 and from Farmington State College in 1958 with a bachelor of science in education. He earned his master’s in education administration in 1963 and a certificate of advanced graduate study in 1969 from the University of Maine at Orono.
He had a long career in education: one year as teacher/principal in Winslow, and 35 years in the city of Waterville as a sixth-grade teacher, principal of South Grammar and Averill schools, as the assistant superintendent and for the last 11 years of his career as superintendent of schools for the city of Waterville.
He was proud to belong to many professional organizations throughout his life, all of which impacted the welfare of the children in Maine. Among them were: The Waterville Teachers Association (president), The Kennebec Valley Superintendents Association (president), The Maine State Advisory Panel on the Education of Handicapped Children (chairman), The American Association of School Administrators, and the Maine State Superintendents Association which honored him by electing him in 1990 to 1991 as their president. Even after his retirement, he continued to impact educators of children by teaching Continuing Education Courses at UMA and the American Institute for Creative Education.
In 1994, upon his retirement as superintendent of schools, the city of Waterville honored him by renaming the former Pleasant Street School, The Albert S. Hall School. No greater tribute could have been made.
He is survived, in addition to his loving wife, Marilyn, by his three daughters, Deborah Hall-Wisse and her husband, Wes Wisse, of Simsbury, Conn., Rebecca (Hall) Bedard and her husband, W. Dean Bedard of Amherst, N.H., and Elizabeth (Hall) Crumrine and her husband, Mark Crumrine, of Minden, Nev.; six grandchildren, Zachary Wisse of Milford, N.H., and Nicholas Wisse of Simsbury, Conn.; Meghan Bedard and Alexander Bedard of Amherst, N.H., and Kathryn Crumrine and Brianna Crumrine of Minden, Nev.; a brother-in-law, George H.
