FALMOUTH — Maine State Ballet dancers will take a break from ballet this month to present their annual “January Tap, Tap, Jazz” production.

Eight in-house choreographers have teamed up to produce a dance show featuring Broadway-style tap, Fosse-style jazz, ballroom, swing, soft shoe and rock ‘n’ roll. The music ranges from classical jazz to a couple of wintry tunes, “Polar Express” and “I’ve Got My Love to Keep Me Warm.”

Performers include company dancers and rising students from the Maine State Ballet School for the Performing Arts. Featured will be tap-dancer and Kennebunk High School senior Janet Ottman. She will dance to her own choreography in “Singin’ in the Rain” and will be joined by others in her piece “Ease on Down the Road,” a tap dance with characters from “The Wizard of Oz.”

Maine State Ballet’s Artistic Director Linda Miele will add her own touch with “I’ve Got Rhythm,” a jazz dance on pointe.

Performances of “Tap, Tap, Jazz” will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22; and at 4 and 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, at the Maine State Ballet Theater. All tickets are $12. For reservations, call 781-7672. For more information, visit www.mainestateballet.org.
