Sewell Staples
1923 – 2010
SOUTH PARIS — Sewell Staples died on Jan. 13, at the Maine Veterans’ Home. He had been a resident there for the past year.
He was born to Harry and Ethel (Skillings) Staples, Oct. 22, 1923. He married Earlene Patterson on July 6, 1944. Together they raised four children, Janice, Kenneth, Virginia and Rebecca. He and Earlene enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting together until her death on May 30, 1982. He retired from the Rumford paper mill. He married Shirley Billings on Sept. 1, 1984. He and Shirley enjoyed camping and going to the casinos together. He also enjoyed his time with his two dogs, Brandy and Maggie.
He is survived by a son, Kenneth and his wife, Suzanne, of New Brunswick, Canada; three daughters, Janice Myles and her husband, John, of Mexico, Virginia Poland of Bryant Pond and Rebecca Brown and her husband, Rodney, of Jay; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; a nephew, Mike Sprague and his wife, Bonnie; a niece, Joan Gaudreau and her husband, Roger; his wife, Shirley of 25 years; one stepson, Dennis Billings and his wife, Kathy; four stepdaughters, Linda Tate and her husband, Joe, Susan Cox and her husband, Steve, Barbara Childs and her husband, Harry, and Brenda White and her husband, Brad; 10 stepgrandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Earlene; five brothers, Alley, Francis, Harold, Carlton and Robert; one sisterm Elsie Sprague; and a daughter-in-lawm Rochell Staples.
His family would like to give special thanks to all the staff at the Veterans’ Home in South Paris, for the great care that he received during his stay there.
