Gilbert N. Dumas

1927 – 2010

LEWISTON – Gilbert Nelson Dumas, 82, of Circle Drive, Lewiston, passed away with his family by his side on Jan. 17, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston after a long illness.

He was born on March 25, 1927, in Haverhill, Mass., the son of the late George F. and Gladys (Quinn) Dumas. He graduated from Edward Little High School in 1944, and also from Bliss College. He married the former Pauline Duguay of Chisholm on June 13, 1949. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in June of 2009 at the home of their son, Peter, with his entire family in attendance.

He was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in Lewiston. They resided on Davis Street for many years and recently lived in Country Lane Estates. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He worked for Davis Cadillac as a service manager and retired from Lee Olds Cadillac in 1991, as a salesman. He was an avid golfer and a standout basketball player in high school and college. He enjoyed playing cards, camping, bowling and watching sports. Most of all he loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline; his daughter, Gail Beaule and her husband, Donald, of Sabattus; his son, Peter and his wife, Nancy, of Lewiston; his son, Brian and his wife, Jeannine, of Lewiston; his eight grandchildren, Jennifer Hemenway, Kim Lagasse, Kevin Dumas, Michael Dumas, Karin Dumas, Allyson Beaule, Sarah Fournier and Ashley Vining. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Coady and Kianna Lagasse and Nicholas and Taylor Hemenway.

He was predeceased by brothers Robert, George and Ken Dumas.

The family would like to thank the staff at d’Youville Pavilion Rehab and ICU at St. Mary’s Hospital, and Dr. Betty Kennedy.
