AVON — An Avon man was released Tuesday on $5,000 cash bail from a Farmington jail after he was arrested on a charge of sexually assaulting a woman.
William R. Pierce, 24, was arrested Friday on a charge of gross sexual assault against a 20-year-old Franklin County woman, Franklin County Sheriff’s Lt. Niles Yeaton said.
A conviction on the charge carries up to 30 years in prison.
Deputy Heidi Wilcox was assisted by detective David St. Laurent during the investigation of the case after the sexual assault was reported on Jan. 10.
The victim, who was acquainted with Pierce, was assaulted by force at Pierce’s residence on River Road, Yeaton said.
Pierce is scheduled to appear on March 19 in Franklin County Superior Court in Farmington.
