AUBURN — Auburn Adult and Community Education has announced its January classes. Enrollment for all classes is still possible and those who wish to enroll are encouraged to call as soon as possible.
High School diploma and GED glasses will begin on Monday, Jan. 25th and require prior enrollment. Call 333-6661 for hours and an appointment.
“Computer Basics” will begin on Monday, Jan. 25. Skills taught in this course will
include starting, restarting and shutting down a Windows computer; using files and folders; launching applications such as Works and Internet Explorer; opening and saving files; mouse skills; typing using Microsoft Word; and searching the Internet for information.
“Practical Computer Applications” will begin on Jan. 25. The class will provide comprehensive hands-on knowledge needed to effectively use four components of the Microsoft Office 2007 suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook Express.
“Keyboarding I and II/Typing” will begin on Tuesday, Jan. 26. Presented on computers, the class will focus on learning the keyboard, correct key stroking techniques and accuracy. Students will learn proper formatting of business and personal correspondence, reports and other documents.
“Amateur Extra Class Radio License” preparation course will begin on Jan. 26. Students will use the ARRL Extra Class License Manual ninth edition for the class.
“Coastal Navigation” will begin on Thursday, Jan. 28. Classes will involve chart reading, dead reckoning, plotting tides and currents, bearings, GPS instruction and navigating rules.
“German for Beginners” will begin on Jan. 25. Attendees will explore conversational approaches to the basics of German and learn about the country and the culture. No experience required.
“Rules of the Road” will begin on Jan. 28. The class will provide participants with 10 principles for sound investing and also discuss how to identify and avoid the most common investment mistakes.
“West Coast Swing I” will start on Wednesday, Jan. 27 and “West Coast Swing II” will start Monday, Jan. 25. West Coast is a versatile social dance. It is one of the most stylized and musically interpretive forms of partner dance. Students will dance to music ranging from blues to today’s latest club beats. No partners required.
“One Night Windows Basics” will meet on Jan. 26. The one-night, three-hour class is designed to prepare students with limited experience with Windows for the “Computing and Windows” course. No typing skills or computer experience are required.
“Digital Photo Uses” will begin on Jan. 26. Those with a digital camera and lots of digital photos will learn how to e-mail photos, create digital photo albums, create slideshows (movies), share online and learn how to use the camera to get the best possible photos.
Applications for “Medical Billing/Coding, Terminology,” “Medical
Transcription Certificate Program,” “Personal Care Attendant” and
“Pharmacy Technician Training Certificate Program” will be taken during
January. Call for details. The class is presented by The Academy of
Medical Professions in cooperation with Auburn Adult Education.
Applications are also being accepted for the next Certified Nurse’s Assistant class and the next Certified Nurse’s Assistant Medication Technician class. Call for details.
