AUBURN – David L. Leclerc, 81, of Franklin Street, Rumford, died Friday, Jan. 22, at the Hospice House after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
He was born in Rumford, a son of Arsene and Roseanna (Lantagne) Leclerc.
He was educated in Rumford schools and was a graduate of Stephens High School, Class of 1946. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1946 to 1948, stationed in Berlin, Germany.
He was employed for 40 years with Boise Cascade Paper Group as an instrument technician. He was a communicant of St. Athanasius-St. John Catholic Church.
He was a member of the Robert Shand Post 1641 of the VFW, the Napoleon Ouellette Post 24 of the American Legion, the Fr. Ambrose J. Barry Council 1641 of the Knights of Columbus, and the Boise 25 and 40-year club.
He was an avid ski jumper and coached many aspiring jumpers. He also loved fishing, woodworking and gardening.
Surviving are his wife, Evelyn Leclerc of Rumford; his children, Louise Taleas and husband, Constantine, of Newton, Mass., Marc Leclerc and wife, Hoang, of Novato, Calif., Bernard Leclerc of Maynard, Mass., Rachel Barnes and husband, David, of Vacaville, Calif., David Leclerc of Haverhill, N.H., Pierre Leclerc and wife, Christina, of Salem, Ore., Monique Fournier and husband, Tim, of Rumford and Jacqueline Cayer and husband, Fern, of Rumford; 12 grandchildren; a sister, Rita Anastasio of Rumford; a brother, Lionel Leclerc and wife, Joann, of Beverly, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; his first wife, Berthe (Fortier) Leclerc in 1982; a brother, Alfred Leclerc; and two sisters, Octavie Leclerc and Theresa Justus.
The family would like to offer a special thank-you to Dr. Austin, the staff at the Hospice House, and the visiting home health nurses for the wonderful care given to David.
