WATERFORD — No one has taken out nomination papers for the March 5 election to fill Chairman John Bell’s seat. The deadline for filing was Jan. 19.

The position could be filled by a write-in vote.

Bell announced earlier this month that he would not seek a second term because of scheduling conflicts.

“I have enjoyed working with townspeople and have found the position to be rewarding,” Bell said in a statement posted on the town’s Web page. “However when I started teaching, I lost the flexibility in my schedule that allowed me to be at the town office when needed.”

Bell, a self-employed surveyor, was elected in 2007. Since then, he has also taken a job teaching Computer Aided Design at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School in Paris.

“I also have less time because I still have my surveying business as well as my family and our farm. I am not able to put the time into the position that it requires, leaving me very frustrated,” he said.

Bell said he felt strongly that the town would be best served by a person who could devote more time to the job.

Selectmen Randy Lessard and Richard Hunt are the other board members.
