LEWISTON — La Rencontre will meet at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 5, at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 150 East Ave. A meal will be followed by a musical performance with Greg Boardman and Friends.

Patrons are encouraged to speak only French during the two-hour meal and program. The meal will feature soup, sandwich, dessert and beverage. The cost of the meal is $7 each person.

Boardman has been teaching and performing, for the most part in Maine, for close to 40 years. He is currently teaching strings full-time in the Lewiston Public Schools, grades four through eight, and at Bates College, where he leads a fiddle group and offers private lessons.

He has performed at the American Folk Festival in Bangor and plays in the viola section of the Maine Chamber Ensemble. His music is also expressed in Christian worship, performing with groups at the Mechanic Falls Vineyard Christian Fellowship and at Lewiston’s Trinity Episcopal Church.

Boardman was also instrumental in the formation of the Mighty Cloud of Fiddlers, a rag-tag revolving-door blend of professional and amateur volunteers who meet biennially since 1988 to
raise money for Habitat for Humanity. Boardman’s interests have also led him to the creation of the Maine Country Dance Fiddle Workshop, co-founded with Kaity Newell and Ellen Gawler in 1992.

Everyone is invited to attend and reservations can be made by calling Claudette Violette at
786-6936 or the center at 783-1585.
