BANGOR, Maine (AP) — Hospital officials say a 19-year-old man who was shot in an altercation in Bangor, Maine, has died.

A spokeswoman at Eastern Maine Medical Center said John “Bobby” Surles died Thursday night.

Police are investigating the shooting that took place at 6 p.m. Wednesday in front of a house on Cumberland Street, but no arrests have been made.

Investigators say the shooting appears to have been prompted by an argument or fight involving up to a dozen teenagers and young adults. Police say the victim was a former Bangor resident who was most recently considered a transient.
