WILTON — Nearly a year after an East Wilton home was burglarized and a TV and gun taken, Detective Richard Billian charged a Wilton man with the crime this week.
Samuel Thibault, 27, is accused of breaking into a home on Main Street last March and taking a 32-inch TV and .22-caliber gun, Billian said. In addition to the burglary and theft counts, Thibault was also charged with possession of a firearm by a felon. He was charged Tuesday at the Somerset County Jail in Madison, where he is being held on other charges, Billian said.
Officer Mark Przeslak filed the initial police report last March, and Billian was assigned the case after being named a detective for the department. He conducted interviewed and held a photo lineup, which helped break the case, according to a statement issued by the department.
The detective expressed gratitude for the community’s assistance and would like to see neighborhood watches develop townwide. “Having 4,500 people on board with the idea would be a great way to stop these thieves,” the department’s statement said.
