POLAND — Seniors Evan Kenney and Taylor Valente posted double-doubles to pace Gray-New Gloucester to a 66-56 triumph over Poland in WMC boys’ basketball action Friday evening.
The Knights (4-12) were competitive in all but the second quarter, trailing 16-9 in the frame. Senior guard Kyle MacVane provided most of the heavy lifting for Poland, tossing a game-high 22 points.
The Patriots (8-8) took a 36-27 lead into the midpoint. Valente recorded a team-high 19 points and 12 rebounds, while Kenney posted 18 points and 11 rebounds. Junior guard Adam Jensen contributed 12 points, and Josh Farynez provided 11 points for Gray-New Gloucester in the winning effort.
Gardiner 46, Rangeley 28
RANGELEY — Senior guard Nick Woods scored 18 points to lead Gardiner to a comfortable 46-28 victory over Rangeley in EWC boys’ basketball action Friday.
The Bobcats (15-1) eased into the contest with a 20-17 lead at the half. Senior center Bruce Carver chipped in with 14 points for Gardiner.
The Lakers (4-11) ran into a narrowing of the waterways in the second half as Gardiner turned up their defense with a full court man-to-man, forcing many turnovers. Junior forward Regan Sargent posted a team-high nine points for Rangeley.
Mtn. Valley 87, Winthrop 59
RUMFORD — Junior guard Cameron Kaubris tossed a team-high 17 points in a balanced attack as Mountain Valley jettisoned Winthrop with an 87-59 victory in MVC boys’ basketball action Friday evening.
The Falcons (16-0) made good use of the passing lanes to remain dominant throughout the contest. Senior forward Jon Benjamin contributed 15 points for Mountain Valley.
Senior foward Corey Staples recorded a double-double with 23 points and
15 rebounds, while junior forward Billy Gordon added 11 points for the Ramblers (2-14) in the losing effort.
Mt. Ararat 53, Lewiston 43
LWEISTON — Senior guard Will Gerencer scored a team-leading 15 points to lift Mt. Ararat to a 53-43 triumph over Lewiston in KVAC boys’ basketball action Friday.
The Blue Devils (3-13) managed a 9-6 first quarter lead, but couldn’t keep pace with the Eagles (7-9) over the rest of the terrain. Senior guard Ronnie Turner posted a game-high 18 points, while senior guard Peter Blais chipped in with 12 points.
Senior forward Chris Kilbreth recorded a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds, while junior guard Josh Walker added 11 points for Mt. Ararat in the winning effort.

Hebron 5, Hoosac 1
HEBRON — Andy Bettencourt and Vlad Gavrik recorded a goal and an assist each to lead Hebron to a 5-1 victory over Hoosac in boys’ ice hockey action Friday.
The Lumberjacks scored five unanswered goals before Hoosac spoiled the shutout in the third period. Peter Quigley, Tom Tracy and Joey Collins each scored a goal for Hebron.
Alex Paur converted a relay from Jim Gervais at the 15:49 mark of the third period to net a power play goal for Hoosac.
Goalie Dave Brassard made 46 saves for Hoosac, while Anthony Avitable turned back 16 shots to earn the win in net for Hebron.

Leavitt 56, Gardiner 53
TURNER — Jordan Hersom’s three-point play with 25 seconds left in overtime put Leavitt ahead by two and Tim Dow topped off the Hornets’ 56-53 victory over Gardiner (5-11) with a free throw in a boys’ basketball nail-biter Friday night.
The Hornets (7-9) were down 53-52 when Hersom was fouled after he scored his basket. He then made good on a free throw. Hersom scored the game-high 22 points and ripped down 12 rebounds. Teammate Lucas Witham scored 14, hit three 3-pointers and was credited with five assists. Dow had six points.
The Tigers’ Spencer Allen scored 17 points and Mike Trahan added 10.
Monmouth 60, Madison 29
MONMOUTH — Ryan Baillargeon scored the game-high 14 points and hit four 3-pointers as Monmouth exploded for 21 points in the second quarter and drifted away with 60-29 victory over Madison in a boys’ basketball tilt Friday night.
The Mustangs (8-8) easily built a 36-14 lead at halftime and held the Bulldogs (2-14) to single-digit scoring for the first three quarters.
Corey Dyke scored 11 and teammate Roger Bachelder dropped in 12 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for Monmouth.
For Madison, Nick Moody scored the team-high 13 points.
Hampden 69, Mt. Blue 59 (OT)
FARMINGTON — Jacob Moore scored the game-high 19 points and Bradley Dolan added another 17 as Hamden scored 14 points in the overtime to finish off Mt. Blue, 69-59, in a boys’ basketball game Friday.
The Cougars (10-6) held a 28-23 lead at halftime before scoring just four points in the overtime. Eric Berry scored the team-high 15 points, and teammates Jordan Hoyt and Cam Sennick each scored 11 for Mt. Blue.

Lincoln Academy 77, Oak Hill 47
NEWCASTLE — Andrew Feltis led Lincoln Academny (10-6) in scoring with 18 points, Everett Martin contributed 17 and Ben McLain followed closely with 15 points in a 77-47 victory over Oak Hill (7-9) in boys’ basketball action on Friday.
Lincoln got off to a hot start quickly taking a 10-0 lead and never looked back. The Eagles dominated the first half with Martin going on an 11 point scoring streak in the second quarter. The score at the break was 44-18. Feltis found the outside sweet spot and dropped in a total of four 3-pointers.
Tim Levesque of Oak Hill made an heroic effort on offense with a game-high 26 points including four 3’s and Cam Morin dropped in an additional 11, but there was no catching up to Lincoln. The Raiders were playing a man short: Ben Foss, their leading rebounder and 2nd leading scorer was out for the game with an ankle injury.

St. Dom’s 63, Mt. Abram 49
AUBURN – Facing a 17-point deficit in the second quarter, St. Dom’s changed the momentum by scoring the final eight points of the first half, closed the gap to one by the end of the third quarter, then erupted in the final quarter to pull away for a 63-49 victory over Mt. Abram in an MVC boys’ basketball game Friday.
The Saints (11-5) used a 20-4 run in the final eight minutes to put the game away.
Mt. Abram (4-12) used some torrid shooting and hit three 3-pointers in the first half to open that 17-point margin with four minuites left in the half.
Peter Keaney led the Saints with a game-high 19 points and added 10 rebounds. Tim Day added 15 points, 15 rebounds and five assists, while Kurt Johnson finished with 13 points.
Jim Barker scored 16 points and Jared Blood added 12 to lead Mt. Abram.
Livermore Falls 64, Boothbay 44
BOOTHBAY HARBOR – Chandler scored 14 of his 18 points in the first half and Khyle Whittemore chipped in with 10 first-half points to help Livermore falls to get off the a quick start en route to a 64-44 victory over Boothbay in an MVC boys’ basketball contest.
White’s and Whittemore’s combined 24 points in the first 16 minutes outscored the entire Boothbay squad, who trailed 36-21 at the half.
Whittenmore finished with 16 points.
Scott Alley led the Seahawks (10-6) with 15 points and Jake Simmons added eight.
