Meeting Each Family Need – One at a Time

By Rus Willette

St. Dominic Regional High School has programs in place to promote the ideal that all students wishing access to a quality Catholic education are able to afford one. We are able to treat each family’s circumstances individually, much like colleges and universities do. This means that all families looking to share in the St. Dom’s experience will be offered a financial package based on their individual circumstances. These need based scholarships are kept confidential and individual. It is our dream to not turn away anyone because of a financial issue.

“The misconception is that St. Dom’s is only for the wealthy,” said Principal Donald Fournier. “The vision of our founder, Father Drouin, was to provide a way for all to be able to afford the St. Dom’s experience. This approach will help us to fulfill Father Drouin’s dream. We are not just a great academic, private school; we are, first and foremost, a Catholic school.”

This year, more than $450,000 in need based scholarships was awarded to over half of our families. This number is an increase of approximately $200,000 from last year. We would like to offer a special “thank you” to our Alumni, parents and our other friends who play a large role in making this possible through their gifts. Without you this program fails, and needy families would not be able to take advantage of this great opportunity.

We hear many heart warming stories of financial hardships that were met by the generosity of the St. Dom’s family. These stories will repeat as St. Dom’s continues to not only prepare students for college, but minister to families that may think that a private school tuition bill is beyond their reach. Finding a way to include these families is just one part of the mission of St. Dom’s. We encourage Alumni, friends and families of St. Dom’s to help us foster the tradition of inclusion started so many years ago by our founder.
